Does Microblading Hurt?

The honest answer: what it actually feels like
Most clients describe the sensation as minimal — similar to light scratching, or someone gently threading your brows. It is not the sharp pain people imagine when they hear the word "blade."
Before we begin, a topical numbing cream is applied to the area, and it is reapplied as needed throughout your session. By the time any pigment goes in, the area is already numb.
How we keep you comfortable
- Topical numbing applied before we start, and topped up during the session
- An unhurried ~90-minute appointment — nothing is rushed
- You can ask to pause at any point; this is your appointment
- A private suite, so you're relaxed — not on display in a busy salon
What affects how much you feel
Comfort is a little different for everyone. A few things you can control make the experience easier:
- Timing: if you're sensitive, avoid the few days right around your period
- Skip caffeine and alcohol the day before — both can heighten sensitivity
- Come rested and hydrated
- Arrive calm — tension makes anything feel sharper
A quick note on health concerns
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or managing an active skin condition in the brow area, message us before booking so we can advise on timing. This is about your comfort and safety — not a sales call.
Does the healing hurt?
No real pain. For the first few days the brows may feel slightly tender or itchy as they heal — similar to a light sunburn that fades fast. The golden rule is simple: do not scratch or pick, and let the surface flake off on its own.
Microblading and pain — quick answers
Does microblading hurt?
Most clients describe it as minimal — like light scratching. A topical numbing cream is applied before and during the session to keep you comfortable throughout.
Is numbing cream used during microblading?
Yes. It's applied before we start and reapplied as needed during your session, so the area stays numb while we work.
Does microblading hurt more than a tattoo?
Generally less. Microblading works at the surface of the skin with a fine hand tool, not a deep tattoo machine, and the area is numbed throughout.
How can I make my appointment more comfortable?
Avoid caffeine and alcohol the day before, come rested, and if you're sensitive, skip the few days around your period. Arriving calm makes the biggest difference.
Does it hurt while it heals?
No real pain — just mild tenderness or itching for a few days. Avoid scratching and let the skin flake naturally.
